Toyota Zenix Overview
The Toyota Zenix is the third generation of the legendary Innova MPV, now built on a new platform and powered by an also new gasoline engine. Built on the front-wheel-drive-based TNGA-C platform, this vehicle is constructed with a unibody design, moving away from the old IMV platform of the second-generation Innova. It is equipped with two engine choices: the 2.0-liter M20A-FKS petrol engine and the 2.0-liter M20A-FXS petrol hybrid engine. The Zenix no longer has a diesel option or a manual transmission.
The Zenix was envisioned as an "Innovative Multipurpose Crossover" in terms of its design concept. Just like its predecessor, this concept seamlessly blends the aesthetics of a crossover SUV with the generous interior space and practicality typically found in a minivan or MPV.
- Launch
-
Toyota Motor Philippines launched the Toyota Zenix on June 22, 2023, making it the latest inclusion in TMP's extensive lineup of high-efficiency vehicles (HEVs), complementing their current selection featuring the Corolla Altis, Corolla Cross, Camry, and RAV4.
Toyota launched the Zenix in two variants, the 2.0 Q Hybrid CVT with a launch price of P1,953,000 and the 2.0 V CVT with a launch price of P1,670,000. The HEV version comes in elegant shades like Platinum White Pearl Mica, Blackish Brown Mica, and Dark Steel Mica, while the gas variant is available in attractive options such as Platinum White Pearl Mica, Silver Metallic, Gray Metallic, and Attitude Black Mica.
- Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
-
Buyers have a choice between two powertrains for the all-new Zenix, the first is the non-hybrid M20A-FKS gasoline engine, and the second is the M20A-FXS hybrid. The M20A-FKS non-hybrid engine delivers an impressive power output of 172 hp at 6,600 rpm, accompanied by a torque of 205 Nm ranging from 4,500 to 4,900 rpm.
On the other hand, the hybrid engine, M20A-FXS, comprises two components. The engine alone generates 150 hp and 188 Nm of torque, while the electric motor contributes an additional 112 hp. Combining their strengths, the hybrid system achieves an impressive combined output of 183 hp and 393 Nm of torque, providing a blend of power and fuel efficiency.
All this is built on the new TNGA-C Platform, a unibody chassis that provides better handling and more supple ride quality in comparison to the previous generation’s body-on-frame chassis. This new platform also allows Toyota to create hybrid versions of the cars built on the TNGA-C platform. The Zenix uses MacPherson struts up front and a torsion-beam rear suspension, making the Zenix’s suspension setup semi-independent. This all means that the Zenix provides a more comfortable and much more stable ride. Unlike the previous generation Innova however, the Zenix is now front-wheel drive and with a transverse engine layout, similar to crossovers, and dissimilar to the previous-generation Innova which was rear-wheel-drive and with a longitudinally mounted engine.

-
Starting off with the dimensions, with the Zenix measuring approximately 4,760 mm in length and 1,850 mm in width, the Zenix shares a similar footprint to the Innova, only slightly longer by 20 mm and wider by 15 mm. The Zenix also has added proportions, including a generous wheelbase of 2,850 mm, which is extended by a full 100 mm from the Innova. The V CVT rides on 17-inch alloy wheels while the hybrid variant is equipped with 18-inch wheels further adding to their boxy and muscular appeal.
Exclusive to the Q hybrid variant are LED DRLs, overfenders, and chrome body accents. Both models get courtesy lamps, LED lighting and fog lamps, and power-folding side mirrors as standard.
- Interior
-
Inside, starting with the dashboard, you are greeted with an all-new interior design, featuring an entirely fresh layout with no elements carried over from its predecessor. A captivating multilayered design encompasses notable upgrades such as the inclusion of an electronic parking brake, a modern instrument housing equipped with a seven-inch digital driver's display, and a steering wheel inspired by the ones found in the Land Cruiser 300.
In the middle, the Zenix is equipped with a heft 10.1-inch touchscreen display equipped with convenient wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, accompanied by a six-speaker audio system.
The extensive array of features doesn't end there. The Zenix also comes with automatic climate control for both the front and rear passengers, ensuring optimal comfort throughout the cabin. Other amenities include keyless entry with push-button ignition, an auto-dimming rearview mirror for enhanced visibility, paddle shifters for a dynamic driving experience, ambient lighting for a touch of sophistication, and three USB-C ports to cater to various connectivity needs.
- Safety
-
The Zenix offers a range of standard safety features, these include ABS with EBD, traction control, hill-start assist, parking sensors, a rear camera, an immobilizer, hill-start assist, and electric power steering.
On the other hand, the Q Hybrid takes safety to the next level with its standard Toyota Safety Sense package. Overall very satisfied so far with its performance. The shocks are softer than Hyundai Staria, the van I am replacing. The Android car play doesn't seem to load despite trying.
